Fishing in Class
Murray cod on the fly is an addiction which has slowly consumed my life to an extent that I'm never truly happy until I’ve caught my next one especially if it’s with a new fly I've tied. Recently I’ve really been taking that extra few moments to appreciate the fish I catch and enjoy the release. It always makes me smile to see a picture of an angler that’s looking down at the fish in admiration instead cheesing out to the camera. I promised myself that was I going to take that extra second to admire all the fish I catch. After too many amazing days and catches I find myself thinking how it all happened so fast, how it was all a blur and asking myself why I didn’t slow down to enjoy the moment… After that entire why it’s all about right? Lots of fishless winter days in the tying dungeon make you reflect on things and come to conclusions. I’ve been taking the time to appreciate that time with the fish and shoot a few photos of friends taking that little bit of time to appreciate the release. I’ve sure been glad that I have.

Surface fishing is the Ultimate way of targeting Murray Cod
When flicking a fly rod around it is still important to get the fly in the right location, close to standing structure, and fallen also weed beds also casting very close and tight against the bank. Surface fishing flies hard up against the bank in a foot or 2 of water is a blast; the strike is instance, with the cod attacking the fly as soon as it hits the water. A shot gun sound rings though your ears and the commutation of a crocodile drag a deer in to the water is how I can explain it. Murray cod lurking the water edge looking for a free feed is common. On many occasions I have seen the dorsal fin of a Murray cod in the shallows chasing bait fish or waiting for that unfortunate of a frog leaping in to the water. Vibrations, movement and noise on the water is what the cod is after, not a huge racket but enough to get the cods attention to make him interest.
On search for the Famous Murray Cod
The talk of the day and weeks to come will be all about you landing a fish on fly. Maybe you’re first time or the hundredth time, for me it’s always a great feeling and for your fishing partner as they get involved too by lip griping or netting the fish. The bug is hard to shake once you have landed a native on fly and the only thing you talk about is the last time you were out hooking up or the next time you can get out on the water chasing these magnific green backs. In your favour too around the camp fire while enjoying a yarn about how big you’re biggest is or the one that got away, is if you have caught a Murray Cod on fly and I can tell you now not too many anglers can say they have, you will always have a story to tell. This is why fly fishing for native’s but speciality Murray Cod is going to be the next big thing.
Cod Zonka, measuring over 200mm long and the biggest Murray Cod fly on the market!!
Lately I've been thinking about a new fly to tie up and use for fishing at night and day. The fly is huge like and nature with a lot of movement and a couple of features to increase its apparent bulk in the water and noise. The fly is so huge, to increase the bulk of the fly in the water and to create turbulence to activate the body and tail materials. Not at all to increase its buoyancy to the point where the fly will float, I was aiming for a fly with no neutral buoyancy, just a natural look and swim. The fly is finished up with a big set of hour glass eyes which whistle on the cast and hopefully make a distinct sound in the water to wake the murray cod up. The first one I tied up is all black but I have some ideas for other colours variations, for dark nights and bight days, I think black is the way to go not to say that all colours are worth ago. I don't think the fish see much for colour then anyway. After tying it up and looking at it, the fly looks a sensational.
All Kaos Cod Flys come in a range of colours and designs, the cod surface gurgler, cod deceiver, cod zonka and cod zantos can be custom tied. Custom colour contact ph 0433 192 438 or
